Reasons to Try Social Media Marketing
TV audiences are fragmenting across multiple cable channels, TIVO, YouTube and Box Sets.
Print Media Giants are closing down due to dwindling sales and high overheads. So how do businesses connect and find their customers anymore?
Social Media Is Where the People Are.
Two Thirds of Internet users globally use some form of social media. So go where the crowd is!
Social Media and networking is now the most popular online activity of all (Nielsen) and its popularity is growing and growing. It is ahead of sending e-mails, browsing the Internet and online gaming. Social Media Marketing engages with these users to educate and inform of a businesses services and draws attention to their presence.
The most popular network – Facebook has over 800 million users and half of those log on to the site every single day!!
Nielsen last released its figures on Social Media in Sept 2011 and unsurprisingly the 500 pound gorilla that is Facebook was far and away the largest network with the highest volume of monthly visitors, longest length of time spent on any site, and unique mobile users.
In May 2011, Facebook had 140.336 million visitors. Runner up was bogging site Blogger with a figure of 50.055 million. Rounding out the rest of the list were:
- Twitter (23.617 million),
- WordPress (22.417 million),
- MySpace (19.25 million),
- LinkedIn (17.786 million),
- Tumblr (11.87 million),
- Six Apart Typepad (8.578 million),
- Yahoo Pulse (8.397 million), and
- Wikia (7.601 million).
Nielsen further broke down the data by adding that 62 percent of the 140.336 million visitors in May were female.
So those figures should be enough to convince even the most hardened skeptic that social media is a market you need to be advertising or making your impression upon.
Trustworthiness
The advertising industry has over the years impressed us, entertained us, shocked us and annoyed but they have also hardened us. We know when we are being sold to and we know that big bucks are behind the message. But we trust our friends and we even trust other people if we feel they have no vested interest in the message they are giving.
Social media is the great democratizer. Anyone can have a voice and can respond to their customers. So while 14% of People Trust Advertisements, a whopping 76% of People Trust Consumer Recommendations and social media platforms are where you can read reviews both good and bad.
People buy from companies they Know, Like and have Interaction with. Statistics show that over 50% of online shoppers are more inclined to buy from Businesses that they follow on social media sites.
